What Is New on the 2027 Ford Super Duty for Southeast Missouri Truck Buyers

New Model Year  |  Farmington, MO Ford trimmed the engine list, spread the Tremor and 35 inch tires across more of the lineup, and added a Carhartt package. These are the 2027 Ford Super Duty changes that matter to farm, fleet and towing buyers around Farmington. The 2027 Ford Super Duty does not look much different parked next to a 2026 truck on our lot at 5019 Flat River Road. The changes are on the order sheet, and a few of them will change how you spec a truck. Ford dropped two engines, made the 7.3L gas V8 standard, and kept the High Output Power Stroke as the one diesel. It also moved the Tremor and its 35 inch tires down into the XL, gave the Tremor an 8 foot bed, put Platinum on the chassis cab, and teamed up with Carhartt. Everything below comes from what Ford published by late September 2026. Quick answer: The 2027 Ford Super Duty makes the 7.3L gas V8 the standard engine on F-250 and F-350 pickups and keeps the High Output 6.7L Power Stroke, rated at 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft, as its only diesel. Ford also added a Tremor option on the XL, a Tremor Crew Cab with an 8 foot bed, an XL off road package with 35 inch tires, a Platinum chassis cab and a new Carhartt package on the XLT. Gas engine 7.3L V8, standard on F-250 and F-350 Diesel engine High Output 6.7L Power Stroke, 500 hp, 1,200 lb-ft New packages Carhartt, Tremor on XL, XL Off-Road 35 inch tires In this post Engine changes New off road options The Carhartt package Chassis cab, colors and more Shopping the changeover What Changed Under the Hood of the 2027 Ford Super Duty? The lineup got simpler. For 2026 you could pick from two gas V8s and two versions of the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel. For 2027, Ford cut that to one of each. Gas: the 7.3L V8 is now standard The 6.8L V8 is gone, and Ford says the 7.3L is now the standard gas engine across its Super Duty lineup. Ford's 2027 rating for the 7.3L in the F-250 and F-350 is 420 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. That's a little under the 2026 rating, and Ford told Pickup Truck + SUV Talk it updated the engine so the Super Duty stays compliant with current environmental standards. For most buyers around here, that's a good trade. The XL work truck that used to come with the smaller V8 now gets the bigger one without checking an option box, which matters if that truck pulls a loaded stock trailer up MO 32 every week. Diesel: one Power Stroke, the High Output The standard output 6.7L Power Stroke has been dropped. The High Output 6.7L Power Stroke stays, rated at 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft, and it's available on the F-250 and F-350 and standard on the F-450. Every Super Duty still runs a 10 speed TorqShift automatic. Farmington driver tip Shopping a 2026 and a 2027 side by side, look at the window sticker first. A leftover 2026 might still carry the 6.8L or the standard output diesel, and that changes how it tows. Our sales team can pull the exact rating for any truck on the lot. Which 2027 Ford Super Duty Off Road Packages Are New? This is where Ford spent most of its effort for 2027. Plenty of Super Duty owners in St. Francois County never touch a trail, but plenty of others run pasture, logging roads and steep gravel drives where traction and ground clearance pay for themselves. Tremor on the XL: the Tremor Off-Road Package can now be paired with the XL and its STX Appearance Package, a cheaper way into 35 inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, an electronic locking rear differential, a limited slip front differential, a factory lift, Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist and Rock Crawl Mode. Tremor with an 8 foot bed: for the first time the Tremor comes on a Crew Cab long box with a 176 inch wheelbase and a 48 gallon fuel tank, on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. XL Off-Road 35 inch tire package: a decal free option for the XL Crew Cab 4x4 short box with single rear wheels. It adds a factory lift, performance shocks, the same locking rear and limited slip front differentials, skid plates and a matching full size spare. The long bed Tremor is the one farm buyers have asked for. Before, you had to choose between a full size bed for feed, fencing and a gooseneck hitch, or the Tremor's off road hardware. Now one truck does both, with a bigger tank for long days. Now one truck does both, with a bigger tank for long days. Ford also says the XL Off-Road package works with the available Ford Performance 12,000 pound Warn winch. That's a handy pairing for anybody who pulls neighbors out of a ditch after an ice storm or works ground near the Big River bottoms. What Is the Ford Super Duty Carhartt Package? Ford and Carhartt announced the first Super Duty Carhartt package in May 2026, and Ford opened orders on May 8. It's built on the XLT Crew Cab 4x4 with single rear wheels, so it sits in the middle of the lineup where a lot of working trucks live. Outside: dark painted grille, 20 inch machined and painted wheels, all terrain tires, off road running boards and textured Carhartt graphics mounted low to guard against mud, road salt and debris. Bed: a Tough Bed spray in bedliner stamped with the Carhartt logo. Inside: seats modeled after Carhartt's Duck Canvas with triple stitching, embroidered logos on the front headrests and Carhartt inspired floor mats. Ford listed availability for fall 2026. If you want one built a certain way, a custom order is the surest route, and Ford does not charge extra to order a truck. Shop Ford Super Duty Inventory Order a 2027 Super Duty What Else Is New on the 2027 Ford Super Duty? A handful of smaller changes round out the year. Platinum Chassis Cab: the F-350, F-450 and F-550 Chassis Cab can now be ordered in Platinum trim, with Platinum interior appointments, leather seating surfaces and SYNC 4. Proud to Honor package: a limited edition appearance package for the F-250, F-350 and F-450 with red, white and blue graphics, darkened exterior accents and black wheels. New colors: Neptune Blue is new for 2027, and Iconic Silver Metallic, which Ford offered on fleet trucks for 2026, is on the 2027 color list. Digital rearview mirror: newly available on upper trims, useful when a tall load or a camper blocks the back glass. The Platinum chassis cab is a bigger deal than it sounds. Ranchers and contractors who wanted a flatbed or service body used to give up the nicer cab to get the chassis they needed. Now a work body and a Platinum interior can share the same truck. How Should You Shop a 2027 Ford Super Duty Around Farmington? Start with the work. Write down what you hitch to, how often the truck is loaded, and whether it'll ever wear a flatbed or service body. Those three answers point to the engine, the cab and bed, and whether you want a pickup or a chassis cab. 1 Pick the engine by the load The 7.3L gas V8 handles occasional heavy towing with simpler upkeep. Daily gooseneck or fifth wheel work across the region is where the High Output Power Stroke earns its keep. 2 Decide between the lot and an order Check what's in stock first, including any remaining 2026 trucks. If you want a specific package like the Carhartt or a long bed Tremor, a factory order lets you choose every option. 3 Bring the fleet team in early Our Commercial Fleet department handles upfits like service, utility, flatbed and dump bodies, shelving, ladder racks and liftgates, plus commercial loans and leases through our Finance Center. 4 Drive it hooked up Bring your own trailer for the test drive if you can. Hitching and backing on a real load tells you more than a spec sheet. Trading in an older truck toward the new one is simple, too. Start with an online offer, then finish the appraisal at the store. We look at any make and condition, and you're not obligated to buy. Warranty Forever Every new Ford sold at Sam Scism Ford, including a 2027 Super Duty, comes with Warranty Forever at no charge. Listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts are covered for as long as you own the truck, regardless of miles, with no deductible. Keep up with the customary maintenance and records. Ford Hybrid Maintenance: What Changes and What Doesn't

Service  |  Farmington, MO A Ford hybrid still has an engine that wants oil, tires that need rotating and brakes that need checking. What changes is how hard some of those parts work, plus a couple of pieces a gas Ford doesn't have. More hybrids roll into our service drive every year. Most are Ford Maverick pickups, along with a good number of F-150 PowerBoost trucks and Ford Escape Hybrid SUVs that have been commuting up US 67 for years. Owners usually start by asking whether a hybrid needs special care. Mostly it doesn't. A few parts behave differently, and knowing which ones keeps you from paying for work you don't need or skipping work you do. Quick answer: A Ford hybrid gets most of the same maintenance as a gas Ford: oil changes when the oil life monitor calls for them, tire rotations, filters, fluids and inspections. Regenerative braking means the brake pads often wear slower, but the brakes still need regular checks for rust, the 12 volt battery still needs testing, and Ford covers hybrid unique components for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Hybrid parts coverage 8 years or 100,000 miles, per Ford Oil changes Still needed, per the oil life monitor Brakes Regen does much of the slowing In this post What stays the same Regenerative braking and brake wear The 12 volt battery Hybrid battery coverage and cooling How a hybrid visit works Is Maintaining a Ford Hybrid Different From a Gas Ford? Less than people expect. The Ford Maverick Hybrid pairs a 2.5L gas engine with electric motors and a power split electronic CVT. The F-150 PowerBoost pairs a V6 with an electric motor. Either way, there's a regular engine under the hood doing a lot of the work. That engine runs on oil, and the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor still decides when it's due. It may run fewer hours than a gas engine on the same trip, but oil also ages with time, so the once a year minimum still matters for a hybrid that mostly runs errands around Farmington. Same as any Ford: oil and filter, tire rotation, engine and cabin air filters, wipers, lights, fluid checks and a multi point inspection. Different on a hybrid: how the brakes wear, how the 12 volt battery is used, extra cooling for hybrid parts and a longer warranty on the hybrid system. Your Owner's Manual lists the schedule for your exact powertrain, and the Ford app shows reminders tied to your VIN. Why Do Brakes Wear Differently on a Ford Hybrid? When you lift off the gas or press lightly on the pedal, a Ford hybrid uses its electric motor as a generator. That slows the vehicle and puts energy back into the battery. Ford calls it regenerative braking, and it handles a big share of everyday stops. The friction brakes still do the hard stops, but they work a lot less in town. Pads often last longer as a result. The catch is that brakes used gently don't get hot enough to dry out, and moisture can let rust build on rotors, caliper slides and the pads themselves. Pads that look thick can still hide rusty slides on a hybrid that rarely brakes hard. That matters around here. Winter roads in St. Francois County get treated, spring stays wet, and that's how sticky hardware starts. Have the brakes inspected on schedule, not only when they squeal. Hybrid brake systems are also more complex to work on. Some keep the system pressurized and need a specific procedure before anyone touches the pads. That's a job for technicians trained on the system. Pads that look thick can still hide rusty slides on a hybrid that rarely brakes hard. What Does the 12 Volt Battery Do in a Ford Hybrid? A Ford hybrid carries two batteries. The big high voltage pack drives the motors. A regular 12 volt battery powers the computers, lights and accessories, and it's what wakes the system up and connects the high voltage side when you press the start button. So if the 12 volt battery goes flat, the vehicle won't power up, even with a full hybrid battery. Owners are sometimes surprised by that the first time. Short trips, long stretches parked and hot summers all wear on it, the same as in a gas car. Ask for a battery test at oil change visits, and especially before the first cold snap in November. Jump starting procedures differ by model, so check the Owner's Manual before hooking up cables. Do not wait on these Brake warning light or a change in pedal feel. Some variation is normal as regen and friction braking blend, but a warning light or a soft or hard pedal needs a look now. Grinding or pulling to one side. Rust on rotors or a sticking caliper is common on lightly used hybrid brakes. Slow wake up or electrical glitches. A weak 12 volt battery often shows up first as odd electrical behavior. Hybrid system warning messages. Book a scan rather than waiting to see if it clears. How Is a Ford Hybrid Battery Covered and Kept Cool? Ford's warranty treats hybrid parts separately. Hybrid and electric unique components, including the high voltage battery, are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. That runs longer than the 3 year or 36,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty and the 5 year or 60,000 mile powertrain coverage. Your Warranty Guide lists exactly which parts count. Heat is the other thing hybrid parts care about. The battery and the power electronics have their own cooling, and the setup varies by model. Some use a separate coolant loop with its own reservoir. A technician checks it during inspections, and the Owner's Manual lists any service interval. Farmington driver tip August afternoons in Farmington can climb into the 90s, and a Maverick Hybrid towing a small trailer to Big River or Lake Wappapello asks a lot of its cooling. Have coolant levels checked before the trip, and keep the grille and radiator clear of grass and bugs. Hybrid Basics Does a Ford hybrid still need oil changes? + It does, because the gas engine still uses oil. Follow the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor, and plan on at least one change a year even if you drive little. Is the F-150 PowerBoost serviced like a regular F-150? + Most items match a gas F-150, including oil, filters, tires and inspections. The hybrid system adds checks on cooling, brakes and the 12 volt battery. Where can I find the maintenance schedule for my Ford hybrid? + Your Owner's Manual lists it by powertrain, and the Ford app shows reminders for your VIN. Brakes and Regen Why does my hybrid's brake pedal feel different sometimes? + The system blends regenerative and friction braking, so feel can vary a little from stop to stop. A warning light or a sudden change in the pedal is a reason to come in. Do brake pads last longer on a Ford hybrid? + They often do, since regenerative braking handles much of the slowing. Life still depends on how and where you drive. Can rust affect hybrid brakes? + Light use lets moisture sit, so rotors, pads and caliper slides can corrode. Regular inspections catch it before it causes noise or uneven wear. The 12 Volt Battery Why won't my hybrid start if the big battery is charged? + The 12 volt battery has to wake the computers and connect the hybrid battery first. If it's dead, the system can't power up. Can I jump start a Ford hybrid? + Many can be jumped through the 12 volt system, but the steps vary by model. Follow the Owner's Manual for yours. Can Ford Mobile Service replace my 12 volt battery? + Battery service is on the Ford Mobile Service list, depending on distance and availability. Call 573-430-1693 to check your address. Warranty and Hybrid Battery How long is the Ford hybrid battery warranty? + Ford covers hybrid and electric unique components for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Check your Warranty Guide for the full parts list. Does the hybrid system need its own coolant service? + Some Ford hybrids have a separate cooling loop for hybrid parts. Your Owner's Manual lists any interval, and we check it during inspections. Does Warranty Forever apply to Ford hybrids? + Warranty Forever covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts on vehicles sold with it at Sam Scism Ford, with maintenance and record requirements. Selling Your Car to Sam Scism Ford, Even If You're Not Buying

Buying  |  Farmington, MO You don't have to be shopping to sell us your car. Start online, finish with an appraisal at the store, and walk out with an offer on any make, Ford or not. Plenty of people around St. Francois County end up with a vehicle they don't need. Maybe the kids moved out and the third car just sits, or you inherited a truck, or you bought something new elsewhere and kept the old one too long. Sam Scism Ford buys cars, trucks and SUVs outright. No purchase required, any make or condition. The process is short, and knowing what to bring makes it shorter. Quick answer: Sam Scism Ford will buy your vehicle whether or not you buy one from us. Get a starting value online, then bring the vehicle to 5019 Flat River Road for an inspection and appraisal, along with every key, the title or payoff information, registration and a photo ID. A private sale often brings more money but takes longer and puts the paperwork, the strangers and the lender on you. Purchase required No, we buy outright What we buy Any make, model or condition Where 5019 Flat River Road, Farmington In this post Selling without buying How the online offer works The in store appraisal What to bring and payoffs Private sale or dealer sale Can You Sell Your Car to Sam Scism Ford Without Buying One? You can. Most people think of a dealer appraisal as part of a trade, but we also buy vehicles on their own. We're always adding to our pre owned inventory, and cars that come from local owners are a big part of it. It doesn't need to be a Ford. Chevys, Toyotas, Hondas, a Jeep with a lift on it, a minivan with a cracked windshield. The sell your car page says we buy any make, model or condition, and we mean it. You came in to sell, so that's the conversation. If you decide later that you want something else, the offer can go toward that instead. How Does the Online Offer Work? Start with the Value Your Trade tool. You'll describe the vehicle and its condition, and you get a starting value without leaving the house. Treat that number as a starting point. Nobody has seen the car yet. The online value assumes the condition you describe is the condition we'll find, so be straight about the warning light, the dent in the tailgate and the tires that are nearly bald. A careful description gets you a number that holds up. The final figure comes from an in person look. That's true at every dealer, and it protects both sides. Value Your Car Online Browse Used Inventory What Happens During the In Store Appraisal? 1 Bring it in during sales hours Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM. Calling ahead at 573-430-1687 helps us have someone ready. 2 Walk around and inspection Our team looks over the body, glass, tires, interior and under the hood, and notes any warning lights or leaks. 3 How it runs and what it's worth here Expect a short drive to hear and feel how it runs. The value also depends on what similar vehicles are bringing in this market. 4 You get a firm offer We explain how we got there. Take it, think it over or walk away with no hard feelings. A little prep goes a long way. Clean out your stuff, run it through a car wash and bring service records if you have them. You don't need to fix dents or replace tires first, since those repairs rarely pay back what they cost. What Documents Should You Bring to Sell Your Car? This list comes straight from our sell page, and having all of it with you is the difference between a quick visit and a second trip. The vehicle and every key and remote: spare fobs add value and cost money to replace. The owner's manual: if it's still in the glove box, leave it there. A valid state issued photo ID for each person selling. Title, or loan payoff information if a lender still holds it. Current registration. What if you still owe money on it? That's common and it doesn't stop a sale. Call your lender for a payoff amount before you come in. It's often a little different from the balance on your last statement because of interest and any payoff fees. When we buy the car, we pay the lender and the lender releases the title. If our offer is more than the payoff, the difference is yours. If you owe more than the car is worth, you'd need to cover the gap, and we'll show you the math plainly before anything is signed. Leased vehicles take one more step, because the leasing company owns the car. Bring your lease paperwork and our team will walk through the buyout numbers with you. Is a Private Sale or a Dealer Sale Right for You? An honest answer is that a private sale usually brings more money. Edmunds puts it simply: you cut out the middleman, so you keep more. You also pick who buys it, which matters to some folks selling a car they loved. The cost is your time. You take the photos, write the ad, answer messages at 10 PM, meet strangers for test drives and handle the title and payment yourself. Edmunds notes it can take weeks or months. If there's a loan on it, the buyer has to trust that the lender will release the title after they pay, and plenty of private buyers won't. Fits you if Selling to Sam Scism Ford You want it done in one visit There's a loan or lease to pay off The car needs work a private buyer would balk at You'd rather not meet strangers or handle the title yourself Fits you if Selling it yourself You can wait weeks for the right buyer The title is clear and in your hand The car is clean and in demand You're comfortable handling payment and paperwork Farmington driver tip If you list privately, meet buyers somewhere public and busy in daylight, and don't sign over the title until the money has cleared your bank. Get our offer first either way so you know your floor. Warranty Forever If you do decide to replace it, every new Ford and most used vehicles sold at Sam Scism Ford come with Warranty Forever at no charge. It covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts for as long as you own the vehicle, regardless of miles, with no deductible, as long as you follow the customary maintenance in the agreement and keep records. See the dealer for details. How it works Selling Basics Will Sam Scism Ford buy my car if I'm not shopping for another one? + We buy vehicles outright with no purchase required. You leave with an offer either way. Do you only buy Fords? + Any make and model is welcome, from imports to other domestic brands. What matters is the vehicle's condition and what it's worth in this market. Will you buy a car that needs repairs? + Our sell page says any condition, and that includes mechanical problems and body damage. Mention the issues up front so the online value is closer to the final offer. The Online Offer Is the online value my final offer? + It's a starting number based on how you describe the vehicle. The firm offer comes after our team inspects and drives it. Why can the appraisal come in different from the online value? + Things a form can't capture, like tire wear, warning lights, odors or a rough shift, show up in person. Accurate details online keep the gap small. Can I check my car's value without visiting? + The Value Your Trade tool on our site gives you a starting value from home. Come in when you're ready for a firm number. The Appraisal Visit When can I bring my car in for an appraisal? + During sales hours, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM. A call to 573-430-1687 first helps us have an appraiser free. Should I get my car detailed before selling it? + A wash and a cleaned out interior help, and a full detail usually isn't needed. Skip big repairs, since they rarely pay for themselves. What do appraisers look at? + Body, glass, tires, interior, warning lights, how it drives, vehicle history and local demand. Service records help show it was cared for. Titles and Payoffs What if my bank has the title? + Bring your loan payoff information instead. We pay the lender directly and the lender releases the title. How do I get my payoff amount? + Call your lender or check its website for a payoff quote. That figure can differ from your statement balance. What if I lost a key or remote? + Bring the ones you have. A missing key can lower the offer a bit since we'd have to replace it. Private Sale or Dealer Will I make more selling privately? + Often, according to Edmunds, but the sale can take weeks and you handle the ads, test drives and paperwork. Getting our offer first gives you a number to compare against. Can I sell privately if I still have a loan? + It's possible but harder, because ownership can't transfer until the lender releases the lien. Many private buyers won't wait on that. Does Sam Scism Ford sell the cars it buys? + Many of them end up in our used inventory, which is part of why we buy any make. You can browse the lot on our used vehicle pages. Blue gray 2027 Ford Explorer ST driving a forest highway in fall color, new for Farmington MO buyers

What Is New on the 2027 Ford Explorer

New Model Year  |  Farmington, MO The 2027 Ford Explorer isn't a redesign. It's a round of fixes owners asked for, including the V6 back on Platinum, the big glass roof back on the option sheet and a darker look for the ST. Ford gave the Explorer a big refresh for 2025, with a new face and a much larger center screen. For 2026 it added the off road Tremor and trimmed a few options. The 2027 model is a lighter touch, and most of what changed is stuff families around Farmington will notice. Ford officially showed the new ST Sinister Package in June. The rest of the changes come from Ford's 2027 order guide, the document dealers order from, which became public in late May. This is how we read it from the sales floor at Sam Scism Ford. Quick answer: The 2027 Ford Explorer keeps the same body and lineup of Active, ST-Line, Tremor, ST and Platinum. The Platinum gets the 400 horsepower 3.0L EcoBoost V6 back as an option, the power Panoramic Vista Roof returns, the ST adds a blacked out Sinister Package and the color list swaps Space White for Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red. Ford's fleet ordering information put the start of 2027 production in early August 2026. Confirmed by Ford ST Sinister Package, June 2026 Returning option 3.0L EcoBoost V6 on Platinum Trims Active, ST-Line, Tremor, ST, Platinum In this post Timing and what Ford confirmed The ST Sinister Package The V6 returns on Platinum Roof, colors and packages Wait for 2027 or buy 2026 When Does the 2027 Ford Explorer Arrive, and What Has Ford Confirmed? Ford's fleet bulletin for the 2027 Explorer put the production window opening on August 6, 2026. New model years take a few weeks to reach dealer lots once the plant starts building them, so for a while you'll see 2026 and 2027 Ford Explorer models side by side. The lineup doesn't change. Active is the starting point, ST-Line adds the sporty look, Tremor handles the dirt road crowd, ST is the performance model and Platinum is the luxury one. All of them ride on the same rear wheel drive based platform, with Intelligent 4WD available or standard depending on trim. One more note on sources. Ford itself showed off the Sinister Package. The other changes here come from the 2027 order guide as it was reported in May and June, so a detail or two could still shift before the first ones arrive. We'll confirm anything you care about on the actual vehicle. What Is the Ford Explorer ST Sinister Package? It's an appearance package for the 2027 Ford Explorer ST, and Ford says it was inspired by owners who had already been customizing their STs. Nothing under the hood changes. The ST keeps its twin turbo 3.0L V6. Wheels and tires: 21 inch gloss black aluminum wheels on 275/45R21 all season tires. Lighting: amber LED daytime running lamps up front. Badging: a red ST badge with a black outline for a darker look. Paint: available with any ST color, not only black. Ford also says 2026 and 2027 Explorer ST buyers get an invitation to the ST Experience, a one day professional driving program. Ask us for the current details if that's part of the appeal. Why Does the V6 Matter on the 2027 Ford Explorer Platinum? For 2026, the Platinum came only with the 2.3L EcoBoost four cylinder. That engine is rated at 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and for plenty of buyers it's enough. Some Platinum shoppers wanted the bigger engine back, though, and Ford listened. The 2027 Ford Explorer Platinum can be ordered with the 3.0L EcoBoost V6, rated at 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft, with rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. It runs through the same 10 speed automatic as the rest of the lineup. The V6 stays standard on the ST and optional on the Tremor. Towing doesn't change much with the engine choice. Explorer is rated up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. Where the V6 earns its keep is passing on two lane roads and pulling with a full load of people and gear. The power Panoramic Vista Roof with a power shade comes back after Ford switched to a fixed glass roof for 2026. It's tied to 4WD models, so check the build if the roof matters to you. Slick Roof Conversion: a new option on select trims that removes the roof rack side rails for a cleaner look. Tremor Sun and Sound Package: a 14 speaker B&O sound system, Multicontour front seats with Active Motion and the Vista Roof. Ford Security Package: theft alerts and stolen vehicle services offered across the lineup. Colors: Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat are added, and Space White Metallic is dropped. Illuminated Ford badge: a dealer installed option that lights up the logo on the grille. The Tremor itself carries over. It joined the lineup for 2026 with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, 31.5 inch all terrain tires on 18 inch wheels, a Torsen limited slip rear differential and three skid plates. Farmington driver tip If your weekends run down forest roads in the Mark Twain National Forest or to a cabin past Arcadia Valley, the Ford Explorer Tremor with the Sun and Sound Package is the one to drive first. The extra clearance helps on washed out gravel after a summer storm. Should Farmington Families Wait for a 2027 Ford Explorer or Buy a 2026? It comes down to which change you care about. If you want a Platinum with the V6, or the opening Vista Roof, the 2027 is the one to wait for. A custom order is the surest way to get the exact build, and Ford doesn't charge extra to order. If none of those matter, a 2026 Ford Explorer gives you the same body, screen and safety tech. Dealers move remaining 2026 models out as 2027s arrive, and current Ford offers are on our specials pages. If you're also cross shopping a Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot or Chevrolet Traverse, the Ford Explorer comparison page lays out the side by side specs, and the new Ford Explorer inventory shows what's on the lot today. Black Ford Super Duty towing a loaded flatbed trailer up a wooded hill road, diesel work near Farmington MO

Ford Super Duty Power Stroke Diesel Maintenance: A Farmington Owner's Guide

Service  |  Farmington, MO A Power Stroke will pull a gooseneck all day in July heat, but it asks for a few things a gas truck never does. Keep the diesel side of the checklist straight and the truck stays ready to work. Most of the diesel Super Duty trucks we see at Sam Scism Ford earn their keep. They haul hay out past Fredericktown, pull campers down to Clearwater Lake and drag equipment trailers up and down US 67 five days a week. The 6.7L Power Stroke V8 handles that kind of life well. It also comes with a short list of diesel only chores: diesel exhaust fluid, two fuel filters and a water separator, and an exhaust filter that has to clean itself. Skip those and the truck lets you know, usually at a bad time. Quick answer: A Ford Super Duty with the Power Stroke diesel needs DEF kept filled, the fuel water separator drained at every oil change or at least monthly per Ford, fuel filters replaced on the schedule in your Owner's Manual, and oil changed when the oil life monitor calls for it. Ford counts heavy towing, long idling and dusty roads as special operating conditions, so a Super Duty that works hard all summer should be serviced on the tougher schedule. Water separator Drain every oil change or monthly, per Ford Oil changes When the oil life monitor calls for it Tougher schedule Towing, long idling, dusty gravel roads In this post Keeping DEF filled and fresh Fuel filters and the water separator Oil changes and exhaust filter regen Towing in summer heat How a diesel visit works How Should You Handle DEF in a Ford Super Duty? Diesel exhaust fluid is a mix of urea and purified water. It gets sprayed into the exhaust, where it breaks down nitrogen oxides before they leave the tailpipe. It doesn't touch the engine or the fuel, and it goes in its own tank behind the blue cap. How fast you use it depends on how hard the truck works. A Super Duty pulling a loaded trailer burns more diesel and more DEF than one cruising empty. The cluster shows the DEF level and warns you as it drops, and the easy habit is to add some every time you fill up on fuel. Don't let it run dry. On trucks built under the emissions rules of the last several years, an empty DEF tank can put the engine into reduced power. The EPA has been revising how those limits work, but a working truck can't afford to find out on a gravel road with a trailer behind it. Summer is the season people forget about DEF storage. It lasts longest somewhere around 23 to 77 degrees, sealed and out of direct sun. A jug riding in the bed all July or sitting in a hot machine shed loses shelf life fast. Buy it in amounts you'll use, keep the cap tight and use fluid that meets the ISO 22241 standard, which Motorcraft DEF does. Why Do Fuel Filters and the Water Separator Matter on a Power Stroke Diesel? Diesel fuel does more than burn. It lubricates the high pressure fuel pump and the injectors on its way through. Ford's own parts guidance says water or dirt in the fuel can leave those parts under lubricated and lead to pump and injector failure. On a diesel, clean fuel is cheap insurance for the parts that cost the most to replace. That's why a 2017 or newer 6.7L Super Duty filters fuel twice. One filter sits on the engine. The other lives in the fuel conditioning module under the truck, which also holds the water separator. How often should the water separator be drained? Ford recommends draining it at every oil change or at least once a month, and right away if the Water in Fuel warning comes on. Humid Missouri summers and storage tanks at the farm can both put moisture in diesel, so this isn't a step to skip. How often do the fuel filters get replaced? Your Owner's Manual has the interval for your truck and model year. Ford ties it to the special operating conditions schedule when you tow a lot, idle for long stretches or run biodiesel blends, so a hard working truck will come due sooner. We use Motorcraft filters, which Ford builds with a water separating outer wrap. On a diesel, clean fuel is cheap insurance for the parts that cost the most to replace. How Do Oil Changes and Regeneration Work on a Ford Super Duty Diesel? Oil service on the 6.7L Power Stroke is set by the truck. The Intelligent Oil Life Monitor watches load, temperature, idle time and miles, then tells you when it's due. Towing and idling pull that date in, so don't be surprised if a summer of hauling brings the message up early. Use oil that meets the diesel specification in your Owner's Manual. Our technicians use oil that meets that spec with a Motorcraft filter and reset the monitor before the truck leaves. The exhaust filter is the other piece. It traps soot, and the truck burns that soot off on its own in a process called regeneration. Ford's owner information says it works more efficiently at a steady speed above about 30 mph, so regular highway miles help it finish. Trucks that spend most of their life idling at a job site or creeping around a farm have a harder time. Ford has published guidance for those trucks, which can see frequent regen attempts that don't complete and a Drive to Clean message. Many newer Super Duty models also let you start a parked regeneration from the cluster when the truck asks for one. Farmington driver tip If your truck lives on short runs between the house, the barn and town, give it a steady highway stretch every so often. A run up US 67 toward Festus or out MO 32 toward Ste. Genevieve at a constant speed gives a regeneration time to finish. Does Towing in a Missouri Summer Count as Severe Duty for a Ford Super Duty? It does. Ford's special operating conditions list includes extensive towing, long idling, extended low speed driving and dusty or off road use. A Super Duty that pulls a camper on weekends and hauls feed during the week checks most of those boxes, and July heat adds to the load on the cooling system. Before a long tow in hot weather, have the coolant level and condition checked, along with belts, hoses and the radiator and intercooler fins. Dust off county gravel clogs air filters faster than you'd think, and a restricted filter makes the engine work harder when it's already hot. Do not wait on these Water in Fuel warning. Drain the separator right away or bring the truck in. Running water through the fuel system risks the pump and injectors. Low DEF or DEF system messages. Add fluid or book a visit before the truck limits power. Exhaust filter or Drive to Clean messages that keep coming back. Repeated messages after highway driving point to a problem the technician needs to scan. Rising temperature while towing. Ease off, pull over safely if it climbs, and have the cooling system checked before the next trip. Service hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with the desk closed from noon to 1:00 PM. The lounge has Wi-Fi and coffee, and the courtesy shuttle can run you home or to work. Records matter on a diesel. Ford covers the Power Stroke engine for 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, and every new Super Duty sold at Sam Scism Ford comes with Warranty Forever, which asks you to keep up the customary maintenance and hold on to the paperwork. Book it your way Schedule online, in the Ford app, or by phone at 573-430-1693. Ask how Warranty Forever covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts when you keep up the maintenance. DEF Questions How often do I need to add DEF to my Super Duty? + It depends on how much fuel you burn, so heavy towing uses it faster. Most owners add some at fuel stops and watch the level on the cluster. Can I buy DEF anywhere? + Any DEF that meets the ISO 22241 standard will do, and Motorcraft DEF meets it. Check that the container is sealed and not past its date. Where should I keep spare DEF at home? + Somewhere shaded and fairly cool, sealed, and not in the truck bed through summer. Heat shortens its shelf life. Fuel and Filters What does the Water in Fuel light mean? + The water separator has collected enough water that it needs to be drained. Ford says to drain it right away when that warning shows. How often should the fuel filters be changed on a 6.7L Power Stroke? + Follow the interval in your Owner's Manual for your model year. Towing, long idling and biodiesel use put you on the special operating conditions schedule, which comes due sooner. Why does Sam Scism Ford use Motorcraft fuel filters? + Ford designs them for the Power Stroke, including a water separating wrap and an air bleed feature. Fuel system parts cost too much to gamble on a filter. Oil and Regeneration How often does a Power Stroke diesel need an oil change? + The Intelligent Oil Life Monitor sets it based on how the truck is used. Expect it sooner during a summer of towing or a lot of idle time. Is it bad to let my diesel idle for a long time? + Ford lists extended idling as a special operating condition. Long idle periods also make it harder for the exhaust filter to finish cleaning itself. What should I do when an exhaust filter message comes on? + Follow the message, which often means a steady drive at highway speed or a parked regeneration if your truck offers it. If it keeps returning, book a visit. Towing and Heat Does towing change my Super Duty maintenance schedule? + Heavy or frequent towing moves you to Ford's special operating conditions schedule for many items. Your Owner's Manual shows which ones. What should be checked before a long summer tow? + Coolant, belts, hoses, the air filter, tires and brakes on the truck, plus trailer lights and tires. Book it a few days ahead so there's time to fix anything found. Do gravel roads affect a diesel? + Dusty roads clog the engine air filter faster, and Ford counts dusty driving as a tougher condition. Have the filter checked at each visit. Service and Coverage What factory warranty covers the Power Stroke engine? + Ford's Power Stroke Diesel coverage runs 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Your Warranty Guide lists the covered parts. Does Warranty Forever cover my diesel truck? + Warranty Forever covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts on vehicles sold with it at Sam Scism Ford, as long as you follow the customary maintenance and keep records. The Ford App and Connected Services: A Farmington Owner's Guide

Ownership  |  Farmington, MO The Ford app can start your truck from the kitchen, warn you about a low tire, and book your next oil change. Some of it's included and some of it's a paid plan, so it helps to know which is which. July in Farmington means getting into a truck that has been sitting in the sun at the ballfield or the job site. Starting it from your phone a few minutes early and letting the AC run is one of those small things you stop thinking about once you've had it. That is one piece of the Ford app. It also keeps an eye on your vehicle's health, reminds you when maintenance is due, lets you book service, and manages the software updates Ford sends over the air. A lot of owners we talk to use one or two features and have never opened the rest, so this post walks through what the app does and what costs extra. Quick answer: The Ford app is free, and on Fords with an activated embedded modem it includes remote start, locking and unlocking, vehicle location, health alerts and service scheduling at no charge. Extras like the Wi-Fi hotspot, Connected Navigation and streaming come in the Ford Connectivity Package, which is included for a set period on many newer models and is a paid plan after that. App cost Free download, iOS and Android Included on equipped Fords Remote start, lock, location, health alerts Paid after any trial Connectivity Package, Security Package In this post Getting started Remote start, lock and location Health alerts and service Included vs. paid plans Ford Power-Up updates Getting help What Do You Need to Use the Ford App? The app itself is a free download from the App Store or Google Play. After you create an account, you add your vehicle by VIN. For remote features to work, your Ford needs an embedded modem, the modem has to be activated and connected to your account, and the vehicle needs SYNC or the Ford Digital Experience. Most recent Fords have the modem. Older models and some base trims may not, and remote start and remote locking aren't standard on every vehicle. If the app doesn't show the connect option for your Ford, our team can check what your VIN supports. Farmington driver tip Do the setup while your Ford is parked outside with a good cell signal, not in a metal shed or a back pasture. Ford notes the vehicle connection can take up to two minutes, and a weak signal around the hills south of town can slow it down. What Can You Control Remotely With the Ford App? On an equipped Ford, the app handles remote start and stop, locking and unlocking, and GPS location. Ford's own support page says remote features are complimentary with the app, so there's no plan to buy for the basics. You can also see fuel level and other vehicle stats, and on models with Phone As A Key, your phone can stand in for the key fob. The redesign in late 2025 added remote comfort controls on equipped vehicles. You can set the cabin temperature, turn on heated or ventilated seats and warm the steering wheel before you get in. In July that means a cool cabin. In January it means a clear windshield. Doors and hood: remote start needs the hood, doors and liftgate or tailgate closed. Check Engine Light: any cause behind it has to be fixed before remote start will work. Key fob: you still need the fob in the vehicle to shift into Drive, unless it has Phone As A Key. Transmission and locks: remote features require an automatic transmission and power locks. Ford's own support page says remote features are complimentary with the app, so there's no plan to buy for the basics. How Do Vehicle Health Alerts and Service Scheduling Work? Vehicle Health Alerts send information from your Ford to the app, things like low tire pressure, oil life and warning messages. The app also shows recall notifications and your service history, and it sends maintenance reminders as service comes due. When something needs attention, you can schedule service right from the app and add a note about what you're seeing. If the alert is a warning light you don't recognize, call the service desk at 573-430-1693 and an advisor can tell you whether it's safe to keep driving. Health alerts don't replace an inspection. They tell you what the vehicle's sensors can see. A technician looking at brakes, belts and suspension on a lift catches the things no sensor reports. Schedule Service Ford App Details Which Ford Connected Services Are Included and Which Need a Plan? This is where most of the confusion comes from. The core app features above are included on equipped vehicles. Two packages work differently. Ford Connectivity Package This covers an unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot, Connected Navigation with live traffic, audio and video streaming, and a voice assistant, with the mix depending on the model and trim. On 2026 models such as the F-150, Super Duty, Maverick, Bronco, Explorer and Expedition, Ford includes it for a year, and after that it continues as a monthly, annual or one time paid plan. You manage it in the app. Ford Security Package This adds theft alerts, Stolen Vehicle Services with live agents who work with law enforcement, and on select trucks a Start Inhibit feature that blocks the engine from starting. It comes with an included period on select newer Fords, then becomes a purchase. BlueCruise hands free driving is its own plan on equipped vehicles, with trial terms that vary. Prices and eligible models change, so check the Ford Connected Services page or ask us about your exact vehicle before you buy anything. What Are Ford Power-Up Software Updates? Ford Power-Up updates are software updates sent to your vehicle over the air, the same way your phone updates. They can refine existing features, fix bugs and sometimes add new capability. Wi-Fi gives the fastest download, and some updates can come through the vehicle's cellular connection. 1 Set a schedule Pick a recurring time for updates, such as overnight when the truck is parked in the driveway. You can manage the schedule in the vehicle and see reminders in the Ford app. 2 Watch for the reminder Your Ford gives a reminder before an update installs. Some updates need the vehicle parked with the ignition off, and you get a short window to cancel. 3 Let it finish Other updates install in the background while you drive. If one seems stuck or you think you missed one, bring it in and our technicians can check the software level. Our May post on checking your Ford for open recalls and software updates covers VIN lookups and recall repairs in detail, so we'll keep this part short. When the app shows an open recall, book it like any other appointment. How Can Sam Scism Ford Help You Set Up the Ford App? If you bought your Ford from us, ask during delivery and we'll help you add the vehicle and walk through remote start before you leave the lot. If you've had it a while and never set it up, stop by during sales hours, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM or Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM, and someone can sit down with you for a few minutes. You can also read more on our Ford app page. Once it's running, keep it updated on your phone so the newest features show up. Warranty Forever Every new Ford and most used vehicles sold at Sam Scism Ford come with Warranty Forever at no charge. It covers listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts for as long as you own the vehicle, regardless of miles, as long as you follow the customary maintenance and keep records. The Ford app's maintenance reminders make that easier. See the dealer for details. How it works Getting Started Is the Ford app free? + The app is a free download for iPhone and Android, and the core remote features are complimentary on equipped vehicles. Extras like the Connectivity Package are paid after any included period. Is FordPass the same as the Ford app? + Ford renamed FordPass the Ford app in October 2025 and redesigned it. Your account and vehicle carry over. Why can't I connect my Ford to the app? + Your vehicle needs an embedded modem that's activated, plus SYNC or the Ford Digital Experience. If the connect option never appears, call us and we'll check your VIN. Remote Features Can I remote start my Ford from my phone? + On equipped Fords with an automatic transmission and an activated modem, remote start is included in the app. The hood and doors need to be closed, and any Check Engine Light cause must be fixed first. Can I drive away after starting with the app? + You still need the key fob inside to shift into Drive unless your Ford has Phone As A Key. Can the app warm the seats and steering wheel? + The redesigned app added remote comfort controls for cabin temperature, heated or ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel on vehicles equipped with them. Health Alerts and Service What do Ford Vehicle Health Alerts show? + They pass along information from your vehicle, such as tire pressure, oil life and warning messages, along with recall notices and maintenance reminders. Can I book service at Sam Scism Ford in the app? + Schedule service through the app, online, or by calling 573-430-1693. Add a note about any alert so the advisor is ready when you arrive. Do app alerts replace regular inspections? + Alerts only report what sensors can measure. A multi point inspection still checks brakes, belts, hoses and suspension by hand. Plans and Subscriptions What is the Ford Connectivity Package? + It bundles an unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot, Connected Navigation, streaming and a voice assistant, depending on model and trim. Many 2026 Fords include it for one year before a paid plan starts. What does the Ford Security Package add? + Theft alerts, Stolen Vehicle Services and, on select trucks, Start Inhibit. It includes a trial period on select newer models. Where do I check current Connected Services terms? + Terms change, so check our Ford Connected Services page or the plans section of the app, and ask us if anything is unclear. Software Updates How do Ford Power-Up updates install? + They download over the air through Wi-Fi or the vehicle's cellular connection. Some install in the background and others need the vehicle parked with the ignition off. Can I choose when updates happen? + You can set a recurring update schedule, and the vehicle and app remind you before an install. Black Ford Expedition Tremor towing a small off road trailer up a dirt road through tall grass, Farmington MO

Ford Expedition vs. Chevrolet Tahoe for Big Families and Towing

Compare  |  Farmington, MO Both are full size, body on frame SUVs built for a crowd and a trailer. The differences show up in how they tow, where the space goes, and what kind of engine you want under the hood. Summer is when big SUVs earn their keep around here. Ballgames in Desloge, a camper headed to the lake, grandparents riding along to Sunday dinner in Ste. Genevieve. If you're shopping for something that seats seven or more and pulls a real trailer, the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe are the two names most families start with. They have a lot in common. Each uses a 10 speed automatic on a body on frame chassis with an independent rear suspension, which rides better in the third row than the old solid axle SUVs did. The real split comes down to engines, how much you tow, and whether you'd rather have legroom or cargo room in the way back. Quick answer: The Ford Expedition tows more, up to 9,600 pounds when properly equipped versus 8,400 for the Chevrolet Tahoe, and gives third row passengers more legroom with a twin turbo V6 that runs on regular fuel. The Chevrolet Tahoe offers V8 engines and a Duramax diesel, seats up to nine with a front bench, and has more cargo space behind the third row. Max towing Expedition 9,600 lb, Tahoe 8,400 lb, properly equipped Seating Expedition up to 8, Tahoe up to 9 Engines Expedition 3.5L EcoBoost V6; Tahoe V8s or diesel In this post Towing and power Third row and cargo Features you'll use Gravel and off pavement Which one fits you Which Tows More, the Ford Expedition or the Chevrolet Tahoe? On paper, the Ford Expedition. Ford rates it at up to 9,600 pounds when properly equipped, a figure that applies to four wheel drive models with the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package. The Chevrolet Tahoe maxes out at 8,400 pounds, and that number comes from one specific setup: the 5.3L V8, two wheel drive and the Max Trailering Package. Other Tahoe configurations are rated lower, so check the exact truck. Power comes from different places. Every Expedition uses a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, and the High Output version on the Tremor and available on the Platinum makes 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. The Tahoe offers a 5.3L V8 with 355 horsepower, a 6.2L V8 with 420 horsepower, and a 3.0L Duramax turbodiesel with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft. Chevy recommends premium fuel for the 6.2L. The Expedition runs on regular. Ford also makes the hitch work easier. Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist come standard on the Expedition, which helps when you're backing a camper into a tight site by yourself. The Tahoe answers with up to 14 available camera views and Blind Zone Steering Assist with trailering. Farmington driver tip The hills on US 67 south toward Fredericktown and the grades around the Arcadia Valley are where tow ratings stop being numbers on a sticker. Leave room under your SUV's maximum for passengers, gear and the tongue weight of the trailer, and check the door jamb label for payload before you load up. How Do the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe Compare on Space? More legroom in the third row or more cargo room behind it. That is the real fork in the road. The Ford Expedition gives third row riders more legroom, about 36.5 inches by KBB's measure, which matters when teenagers or adults sit back there. On most trims its third row splits 40/20/40, so you can fold one seat for a long item and still carry passengers on either side. The Chevrolet Tahoe trades some of that legroom for cargo room. Behind its third row there are 25.5 cubic feet, more than the standard length Expedition, and that's the difference between fitting the stroller and a cooler or choosing one. The Tahoe can also seat nine when it has a front bench seat. The Expedition seats up to eight. If you need both legroom and cargo space, each brand sells a longer version: the Ford Expedition MAX and the Chevrolet Suburban. That's a different conversation, but it's worth a look if your family is still growing. More legroom in the third row or more cargo room behind it. That is the real fork in the road. What Features Set the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe Apart? The Ford Expedition's Split Gate is the feature people end up talking about. The rear glass and upper gate open like a normal liftgate, and the lower section folds down like a small tailgate. It makes a handy seat at a ballfield and keeps groceries from rolling out. A power sliding center console can move back up to about eight inches, so second row passengers can reach it. Up front, the Expedition pairs a 13.2 inch touchscreen with a 24 inch display that runs across the base of the windshield. The Chevrolet Tahoe goes big in the middle with a 17.7 inch touchscreen, an 11 inch driver display and an available 15 inch head up display. Both offer hands free highway driving. Ford's BlueCruise is optional on the Expedition, and GM's Super Cruise is available on most Tahoe trims, though not the LS or Z71. Plans and trial periods for each vary, so ask how they work on the vehicle you're looking at. Shop Ford Expedition Inventory Get Your Trade Offer How Do the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe Handle Rough Roads? Plenty of families around Farmington live at the end of a gravel road or pull a camper into a grassy campground. Both SUVs have a version built for that. The Ford Expedition Tremor comes with four wheel drive, 33 inch all terrain tires, extra ground clearance, underbody protection and an electronic locking rear differential, plus the High Output engine. The Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 brings a two speed transfer case, an aluminum skid plate, red recovery hooks, Hill Descent Control and an available four corner air suspension that can change ride height. For ride comfort on regular roads, testers have found the two drive more alike than different. J.D. Power's comparison called the Tahoe more composed than expected and the Expedition more agile than expected. A test drive on the roads you drive every day will tell you more than any review. Which Fits Your Family, the Ford Expedition or the Chevrolet Tahoe? Fits you if Ford Expedition You tow a camper or boat that pushes past 8,400 pounds Adults or teens ride in the third row on longer trips You want regular fuel and a twin turbo V6 with strong torque Split Gate and Pro Trailer Backup Assist sound like daily helpers The Tremor's locking rear differential fits your back roads Fits you if Chevrolet Tahoe You want a V8 or a Duramax diesel You need seating for nine with a front bench Cargo space behind the third row matters more than legroom Your trailer sits comfortably under 8,000 pounds A very large center touchscreen is high on your list If the Ford Expedition fits, come drive one at Sam Scism Ford on Flat River Road. Which is the off road version of each? + The Ford Expedition Tremor and the Chevrolet Tahoe Z71. Gravel Road Wear on Your Ford: What Farmington Owners Should Check

Service  |  Farmington, MO Gravel county roads are part of life around Farmington. They are also hard on filters, front end parts, tires and paint, and Ford's own schedule treats them as a tougher kind of driving. If you live off a county road in St. Francois County, you already know the routine. Dust hangs in the air behind every truck in July, and the washboard stretches rattle the change in your cup holder. All of that adds up on a vehicle. Ford's maintenance schedule has a separate section for vehicles driven mainly on unpaved or dusty roads, and plenty of Fords around Farmington, Bonne Terre and Fredericktown fit that description. This post covers what that section asks for and what our technicians look at when a gravel road Ford comes in. Quick answer: Ford's Owner's Manuals list dusty or sandy conditions, meaning mostly unpaved or dusty roads, as a special operating condition. That calls for more frequent cabin and engine air filter checks, regular inspection of wheels and related parts for noise, wear or looseness, more frequent tire rotation and tread checks, and oil changes sooner than the normal schedule. Engine air filter Ford range of 15,000 to 30,000 miles, sooner on dirt roads Cabin air filter Check often and replace as needed on dusty roads Your exact schedule Owner's Manual and the Ford app In this post Why gravel is hard on a Ford Ford's dusty conditions schedule Engine and cabin air filters Suspension, steering and tires Paint and underbody How a visit works Why Are Gravel and Dirt Roads Hard on a Ford? Three things happen on gravel that don't happen on pavement. Fine dust gets pulled into the engine intake and the cabin vents. Loose rock gets thrown up at the paint, the glass and everything underneath. And the constant small hits from washboard and potholes travel up through the tires into the suspension and steering. None of it breaks a Ford in a week. It just wears parts faster than the normal schedule assumes, which is why Ford writes a separate set of recommendations for it. What Does Ford's Dusty Conditions Schedule Call For? In the scheduled maintenance section of your Owner's Manual, Ford lists special operating conditions such as towing, extensive idling and dusty or sandy driving. The dusty or sandy table is meant for vehicles driven mainly on unpaved or dusty roads. In the Ford manuals we've checked, it lists these items: Cabin air filter: inspect frequently and replace as needed. Engine air filter: inspect on a shorter interval and replace as required. Wheels and related components: inspect for abnormal noise, wear, looseness or drag. Tires: rotate, inspect for wear and measure tread depth more often. Engine oil and filter: change sooner than the normal schedule. The exact mileage for each item varies by model and engine, so look up your own vehicle in the Owner's Manual or the Ford app. When you book with us, mention that you drive gravel most days and the advisor will set up the visit around the dusty schedule. None of it breaks a Ford in a week. It just wears parts faster than the normal schedule assumes. How Often Should You Change Air Filters on Gravel Roads? Ford's general guidance for the engine air filter is every 15,000 to 30,000 miles depending on the model. Ford also says to change it sooner if you drive on dirt roads or in very dusty conditions, or any time you see dirt and debris in the filter. On a truck that runs a gravel road twice a day, sooner is the normal case. A clogged engine air filter makes the engine work harder for the air it needs. The cabin air filter is the one you notice yourself. When it fills with dust, the AC and heat push less air, the windows fog more easily, and the cabin smells musty after a rain. Farmington driver tip Have both filters looked at in early summer and again in the fall. July and August on dry county roads load a filter quickly, and fall harvest on the farm roads around Perryville kicks up even more dust. Filters are quick to check during any oil change or multi point inspection, so there is no reason to guess. If you'd rather do it yourself, our parts department can get the right genuine Ford or Motorcraft filter for your VIN through Order Parts. What Suspension, Steering and Tire Checks Matter Most? Washboard gravel shakes the front end thousands of times a mile. Over time that shows up in ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, shocks and the rubber boots that keep dirt out of joints. That is why Ford's dusty table calls for checking wheels and related components for noise, wear, looseness and drag. Tires take the first hit. Sharp, broken gravel can cut tread and sidewalls, and a rock wedged in the tread can work its way in. Rotating on the dusty schedule keeps wear even, and a technician measuring tread depth will spot a cut before it becomes a flat on MO 32. Do not wait on these Clunks over bumps. A knock or clunk from the front end on rough roads can point to worn ball joints, tie rod ends or sway bar links. Have it inspected soon. Steering wander or a loose feel. If the wheel feels vague or the truck drifts on a straight road, worn steering parts may be the cause, and that affects control. Humming that changes with speed. A growl or hum that gets louder as you speed up can be a wheel bearing on its way out. Cut or bulging sidewall. A sidewall bulge or deep cut means the tire can fail suddenly. Switch to the spare and get it replaced. Schedule Service See Service Specials How Do You Protect Paint and the Underbody From Gravel? Rock chips are part of the deal on gravel, but you can keep them from turning into rust. Touch up chips on the hood, rocker panels and behind the wheels before moisture gets under the paint. Keeping some distance from the truck ahead cuts down on thrown rocks more than anything else you can do. Underneath, dust and mud pack into frame rails, around brake lines and around the fuel tank shield. Mud holds moisture against metal. A rinse of the underbody and wheel wells every few weeks in summer, and after any muddy stretch, keeps it from building up. In winter the same rinse washes off road treatment. When your Ford is on the lift for service, ask the technician to take a look underneath for packed mud, damaged shields or a brake line that took a rock. It takes a couple of minutes and catches problems you'd never see from the driveway. What Happens When You Bring a Gravel Road Ford to Sam Scism Ford? Tell the advisor how you drive. A truck that sees gravel every day gets a different conversation than one that lives on US 67. Our Ford trained technicians check the filters, rotate the tires, look over the suspension and steering, and give you a straight rundown of what is worn and what can wait. Service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed noon to 1:00 PM. The lounge has Wi-Fi and coffee, there's a courtesy shuttle, and loaner cars may be available depending on the work. Keep your receipts, because records of the customary maintenance are what keep Warranty Forever in force on vehicles that have it. Book it your way Schedule online, in the Ford app, or by phone at 573-430-1693. For filters, fluids and tire rotations, ask whether Ford Mobile Service can come to you. Ford's Dusty Conditions Schedule Does driving on gravel roads count as severe service for a Ford? + Ford lists dusty or sandy conditions as a special operating condition for vehicles driven mainly on unpaved or dusty roads. That table calls for more frequent filter, tire, wheel and oil service than the normal schedule. Where do I find the dusty conditions schedule for my Ford? + It is in the scheduled maintenance section of your Owner's Manual under special operating conditions. The Ford app also shows maintenance reminders for your vehicle. Should I change my oil more often on dirt roads? + Ford's dusty conditions table calls for oil and filter changes sooner than the normal interval. Your manual gives the exact mileage for your engine. Air and Cabin Filters How often should I replace my Ford engine air filter? + Ford's general range is every 15,000 to 30,000 miles depending on the model. Change it sooner if you drive dirt roads or see dirt and debris in the filter. What are the signs of a dirty cabin air filter? + Weak airflow from the vents, windows that fog easily and a musty smell when the AC first comes on are the usual clues. Can I replace my own Ford air filters? + On many Fords the engine and cabin filters are owner serviceable, and the steps are in your manual. Our parts department can match the right filter to your VIN. Suspension, Steering and Tires What front end parts wear faster on gravel? + Ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, shocks and the rubber boots that protect joints all take extra punishment from washboard roads. How often should tires be rotated on a gravel road Ford? + Ford's dusty table calls for more frequent rotation along with tread depth checks. Follow the mileage in your manual or let us set it up at each visit. Is a clunk over bumps something to worry about? + A front end clunk often points to worn suspension or steering parts. Get it inspected soon, since those parts affect how the vehicle steers and stops. Paint and Underbody How do I keep rock chips from rusting? + Touch up chips before moisture gets under the paint, and focus on the hood, rockers and the areas behind the wheels. Should I wash the underside of my truck? + Rinsing the underbody and wheel wells every few weeks in summer and after muddy drives keeps packed mud from holding moisture against metal. Can you check the underbody during service? + Ask while your Ford is on the lift and the technician can look for packed mud, damaged shields or a brake line that took a hit. Scheduling and Coverage How do I book service at Sam Scism Ford? + Schedule online, in the Ford app, or call 573-430-1693. We are at 5019 Flat River Road in Farmington. Can Ford Mobile Service change filters at my house? + Ford Mobile Service lists fluids and filters, tire rotations and diagnostic scans among its jobs, depending on distance and availability. Call the service desk to see what fits your address. Does gravel road driving affect Warranty Forever? + Warranty Forever asks you to follow the customary maintenance in your agreement and keep records. Ozark Weekend Trips From Farmington in Your Ford

Ownership  |  Farmington, MO Four state parks in the St. Francois Mountains sit close enough for a Saturday. This is how they differ, which Ford fits each one, and what to check before you head out. Memorial Day is behind us, school is letting out, and the weekends from here to Labor Day fill up fast. You don't have to drive far from Farmington to find granite boulders, Missouri's highest point, a river that pours through volcanic rock, or 2,000 acres of sand and trail. Each trip asks something different of a vehicle. A day at the Shut-Ins with three kids and a cooler is not the same as a Saturday in the St. Joe riding area. This guide walks through each park, the Ford that fits it, and the short list our service team would check before you load up. Quick answer: St. Joe State Park in Park Hills has a riding area of about 2,000 acres where four wheel drive vehicles are allowed only on the old mine tailings, with an ORV permit and a flag mast. Johnson's Shut-Ins, Elephant Rocks and Taum Sauk Mountain are paved road trips that suit any Ford, so pick by passengers, gear and how much trail you want. St. Joe riding area About 2,000 acres, ORV permit required Missouri's highest point Taum Sauk Mountain, 1,772 feet Tallest waterfall Mina Sauk Falls, 132 feet In this post St. Joe State Park riding area Shut-Ins, Elephant Rocks, Taum Sauk Which Ford fits which trip What to check before you go Get it checked first What Should You Know Before Riding at St. Joe State Park? St. Joe State Park covers 8,243 acres on the south side of Park Hills, a short drive up US 67 from our store. St. Joe Minerals shut down its operations in the area in 1972 and donated the land to the state, and the riding area sits on the old lead mine tailings. Missouri Mines State Historic Site is inside the park too, so the history is right there if half the group would rather see the mill buildings than the sand. The riding rules are specific, and park staff do enforce them. Dune buggies and four wheel drive vehicles are allowed only in the tailings area, not on the wooded trails. Any vehicle in the ORV area needs a permit, which you can buy online for up to three days of riding or pick up at the ORV contact station when you arrive. Flag mast: every vehicle other than a motorcycle needs a mast at least 72 inches long with an orange flag of at least 72 square inches. Seat belts: motorized vehicles other than motorcycles and ATVs need a seat belt for each occupant. Young drivers: operators under 16 and unlicensed operators must have direct supervision by a licensed adult. Staging area: the speed limit in the staging area and parking lot is 5 miles per hour. Helmet, noise and spark arrestor rules apply to certain vehicles as well, and the park posts temporary closures on its status map. Read the full riding rules on the Missouri State Parks site the week you go. The park also has four lakes, two with swimming beaches, so nobody has to ride to have a good day. How Do Johnson's Shut-Ins, Elephant Rocks and Taum Sauk Compare? These three are paved road trips, and they make a natural loop. MO 221 runs from US 67 at Farmington through Doe Run to MO 21 at Pilot Knob, which puts you in the Arcadia Valley without fighting St. Louis traffic. Elephant Rocks State Park On Highway 21 in Belleview, Elephant Rocks is a field of giant granite boulders formed from rock about 1.5 billion years old. Kids climb all over them. The Braille Trail through the main rock area was designed for people with visual and physical disabilities, so grandparents can come along, and picnic tables sit in the shade. Taum Sauk Mountain State Park Taum Sauk Mountain rises to 1,772 feet, the highest point in Missouri, and the walk from the parking lot to the summit is short. The bigger payoff is Mina Sauk Falls, which drops 132 feet and is the tallest waterfall in the state. That trail is moderately rugged, and the falls are fullest after a good rain. Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park In Reynolds County, the East Fork of the Black River squeezes through hard volcanic rock and spills over and around it in chutes and pools. The park was wrecked by the Taum Sauk reservoir failure in December 2005 and reopened the river to swimmers in 2009, with a new campground the year after. Hot summer weekends can draw a crowd, so an early start pays off. Farmington driver tip Bare granite soaks up summer sun, so plan Elephant Rocks for the morning before the boulders heat up, then head to Taum Sauk or the Shut-Ins after lunch. Pack more water than you think you'll need. Which Ford Fits Which Ozark Trip? Any Ford in good shape will get you to Elephant Rocks and back. The choice gets more interesting when you add sand, a trailer or a third row of passengers. Ford Bronco: the one for the St. Joe tailings and for open air summer driving. The roof and doors come off, G.O.A.T. Modes adjust the drive system for the surface, and the Sasquatch Package is available for more clearance and bigger tires. Ford Bronco Sport: a smaller SUV that still handles gravel and park roads with ease. The Badlands version adds the 2.0L EcoBoost, Advanced 4x4 with a twin clutch rear drive unit, seven G.O.A.T. Modes including Rock Crawl, and a steel skid plate under the engine. Ford F-150: the hauler. If your weekend means trailering an ATV or side by side to St. Joe, the truck does the towing while the toy does the riding, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist is available on many trims. Ford Expedition: the family shuttle to the Shut-Ins. It seats up to eight, the Split Gate makes loading coolers and chairs easier, and the Tremor version adds 33 inch all terrain tires and an electronic locking rear differential for rougher roads. Any Ford in good shape will get you to Elephant Rocks and back. We cover trailer setup in detail in our lake towing post from last May, so we won't repeat it here. For the St. Joe trip, the short version is to check the hitch, the trailer lights and the tie downs before you leave the driveway. Shop Ford Bronco Explore Ford Bronco Sport What Should You Check on Your Ford Before an Ozark Weekend? Most trip problems start with something small you could have caught in the driveway. Give it ten minutes the night before. 1 Tires and the spare Check pressure cold, look for cuts or bulges on the sidewalls, and confirm the spare has air. Gravel park roads are rough on tires that were already marginal. 2 Fluids and wipers Check oil, coolant and washer fluid. Late May storms roll through fast in the St. Francois Mountains, and you want wipers that clear the glass. 3 Warning lights and messages If a warning light is on, have it looked at before the trip, not after. The Ford app shows vehicle health alerts on many newer models. 4 Trail and trailer gear For St. Joe, pack the flag mast, the permit and a tow strap, and know where your recovery points are. For a trailer, test every light with a helper. After a day in the sand, rinse the underbody and wheel wells and keep an eye on your engine air filter. Fine sand and dust work their way into places you don't see, and a quick wash on Sunday evening keeps it from sitting there all summer. When Should You Bring Your Ford in Before a Trip? If the oil life monitor is getting low, the tires are close to worn out, or something has felt off lately, get it in a week or two ahead of a big weekend. That leaves time to order a part if one is needed. Our service center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed for lunch from noon to 1:00 PM. Book online, in the Ford app, or call 573-430-1693. For routine items like an oil change, tire rotation or battery, Ford Mobile Service may be able to come to your home or job, depending on distance and availability. A little prep keeps the drive home as easy as the drive down. See the dealer for details. How it works St. Joe State Park Riding Can I drive my Ford Bronco in the St. Joe State Park riding area? + Four wheel drive vehicles are allowed in the tailings area of the riding area, not on the wooded trails. You need an ORV permit and a flag mast at least 72 inches tall with an orange flag. Where do I get an ORV permit for St. Joe State Park? + Missouri State Parks sells permits online for up to three days of riding, and the ORV contact station at the park sells them on arrival. Carry the permit whenever you are in the riding area. How big is the St. Joe State Park riding area? + The park covers 8,243 acres, and about 2,000 of those are set aside for off road vehicles on the old lead mine tailings. The Arcadia Valley Parks What is the highest point in Missouri? + Taum Sauk Mountain, at 1,772 feet. The walk from the parking lot to the summit marker is short, and Mina Sauk Falls is on a separate, rougher trail in the same park. Is Elephant Rocks a good stop with young kids or older relatives? + It works well for both. The boulders are fun to climb, and the Braille Trail through the main rock area was built for people with visual and physical disabilities. Can you swim at Johnson's Shut-Ins? + The shut-ins on the East Fork of the Black River reopened for water recreation in 2009 after the 2005 reservoir flood. Check the park's current conditions before you go, since high water can change things fast. Choosing the Right Ford Do I need four wheel drive to visit these parks? + Not for Elephant Rocks, Taum Sauk or Johnson's Shut-Ins, which you reach on paved roads. Four wheel drive matters if you plan to ride the St. Joe tailings. Is the Ford Bronco Sport capable enough for gravel park roads? + A Ford Bronco Sport handles gravel and park roads well, and the Badlands version adds Advanced 4x4 with a twin clutch rear drive unit and a Rock Crawl mode. Which Ford works for a big family heading to the Shut-Ins? + The Ford Expedition seats up to eight and has the Split Gate for loading coolers and chairs. Our sales team at 573-430-1687 can show you what is on the lot. Trip Prep and Care What should I check on my Ford before a weekend trip? + Tire pressure and the spare, oil and coolant, wipers and washer fluid, and any warning lights. If you are trailering, test the trailer lights with a helper. Should I wash my Ford after riding at St. Joe? + Rinse the underbody, wheel wells and brakes after a day on sand or dusty tailings. Fine grit holds moisture and wears parts if it sits. Does trail driving affect my engine air filter? + Dusty and sandy driving clogs an air filter faster, and Ford recommends changing it sooner when you drive on dirt roads. Have it checked at your next visit. Service and Coverage How far ahead should I book service before a trip? + A week or two gives our team time to order a part if the inspection turns something up. Book online, in the Ford app, or at 573-430-1693. Can Ford Mobile Service come to me before a weekend? + Ford Mobile Service can handle oil changes, tire rotations, batteries and other routine work at your home or job, depending on distance and availability. Does Warranty Forever cover my Ford on trail trips? + Warranty Forever covers listed powertrain parts for as long as you own the vehicle, provided you keep up the customary maintenance and records. How to Check Your Ford for Open Recalls and Software Updates

Service  |  Farmington, MO A recall letter is easy to miss, and some fixes now arrive over the air while the truck sits in the driveway. Learn how to check your Ford with the VIN and what to do with what you find. Plenty of open recalls aren't open because the owner ignored them. The letter went to an old address, or the truck changed hands twice, or the envelope got tossed with the junk mail. The owner never knew. Checking takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing. Newer Fords also get software updates over the air, and a few of those updates are recall fixes. Knowing how both pieces work keeps you from driving around with a problem Ford has already fixed. Quick answer: Enter your 17 character VIN in Ford's recall lookup on the Ford owner support site or in NHTSA's free recall lookup, which shows unrepaired recalls from at least the past 15 years. Safety recall repairs are done free at a Ford dealer no matter how old the vehicle is or how many owners it has had. Many current Fords also receive software updates over the air, and keeping Automatic Software Updates turned on lets some software recall fixes install without a shop visit. What you need Your 17 character VIN Recall repair cost No charge at a Ford dealer Software updates Over the air on current Fords, or at the dealer In this post Finding your VIN Checking for recalls Over the air updates Getting recalls fixed Used vehicles Where Do You Find Your Ford's VIN? Every recall check starts with the vehicle identification number, a 17 character code unique to your vehicle. Recalls are tied to VINs, not just to a model and year, because a recall may cover trucks built at one plant during a certain stretch of weeks. Windshield: look through the glass at the lower corner on the driver side. Door jamb: open the driver door and check the sticker on the frame. Paperwork: your registration and insurance card both list it. Snap a photo of it with your phone. You'll use it for recall checks, insurance calls and parts orders, and it saves walking out to the driveway every time. How Do You Check a Ford for Open Recalls? There are two good places to look, and both are free. 1 Ford's owner support site Ford's support site has a recall lookup. Type in your VIN and it shows any open Ford recalls for that vehicle. 2 NHTSA's recall lookup The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration runs a free VIN search on its website. It shows unrepaired safety recalls from at least the past 15 calendar years and covers the major automakers, so it works for every vehicle in your driveway, Ford or not. 3 Call the service desk If you'd rather skip the websites, call us at 573-430-1693 with your VIN. We can look up open recalls for your Ford and tell you what each one involves. Sometimes a recall is announced before the repair parts are ready. The lookup will show the recall as open with the remedy not yet available. Owners typically get a second notice when parts are ready, and you can call ahead to ask where things stand. Act on these right away Park outside or do not drive notices. If a recall letter or lookup tells you to park outside or stop driving the vehicle, follow it and call us to arrange the repair. Recalls tied to brakes, steering or airbags. Don't wait for your next oil change. Book a visit as soon as the remedy is available. Warning lights that match the recall. A new warning message on a vehicle with an open recall is a reason to come in now, not later. How Do Ford Over the Air Software Updates Work? Ford says every Ford and Lincoln it sells in North America today can receive over the air updates, and some vehicles have had the ability since the 2021 model year. Ford's support pages call these Ford Power-Up software updates. They arrive through the vehicle's built in cellular connection, so no cable and no shop visit. Updates go out in waves, and timing depends on the year, model and trim. Some add features or improve how things work. Others are behind the scenes fixes. When one installs, you'll usually get a message on the center screen or in the Ford app. Settings that help Automatic Software Updates is on by default. Leave it that way and set a Recurring Update Schedule in the Ford app or the vehicle settings menu, since some updates need the vehicle parked and off for a little while. Ford suggests a time you won't need it, like 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Ford's Software Updates page on its website lists updates sent in the last 180 days along with release notes. It's a quick way to see what changed after you notice a new message on the screen. Farmington driver tip Trucks that live in a metal pole barn or a shop building out in the county sometimes have weak cell signal, and updates can stall. If the Ford app keeps showing an update waiting, pull the truck outside overnight on your scheduled update night or let us know at your next visit. Checking takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing. Can a Recall Be Fixed Over the Air, or Do You Need the Dealer? It depends on the recall. When the fix is software only, Ford can send it over the air to vehicles with Automatic Software Updates turned on and a schedule set. If you haven't accepted the update, or the vehicle has trouble connecting, the dealer can install it. Recalls that need a new part, an inspection or hands on work still require a service visit. Those repairs are done at no cost to you. Safety recall work is free at a Ford dealer regardless of the vehicle's age or how many owners it has had. Schedule Recall Service Ford Mobile Service Letting the work come to you Some recall work doesn't need a trip to Flat River Road. Ford Mobile Service lists recall work and software updates among the jobs its technicians can do at your home or job site, depending on the repair, distance and availability. Ask when you call and we'll tell you whether your recall qualifies. Should You Check Recalls on a Used Ford? Every time. Recalls follow the VIN, not the owner, and the original letter almost certainly went to someone else. A used truck bought from a neighbor in Bonne Terre or off a lot in another county can carry an open recall the seller never heard about. Run the VIN through both lookups before you buy, or right after. The repair is still free to you as the new owner. If you're shopping our used inventory, ask your salesperson to pull the recall status for any vehicle you're considering. Service hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with the desk closed from noon to 1:00 PM. The lounge has Wi-Fi and coffee, there's a courtesy shuttle, and loaner cars may be available depending on the work. Book it your way Schedule online, in the Ford app, or by phone at 573-430-1693. Ask whether your recall or software update can be handled by Ford Mobile Service at your home or job. Recall Lookups How do I check if my Ford has a recall? + Enter your 17 character VIN in Ford's recall lookup on its owner support site or in NHTSA's free recall search. You can also call the Sam Scism Ford service desk at 573-430-1693. How far back does the NHTSA recall lookup go? + It shows unrepaired safety recalls from at least the past 15 calendar years. Major automakers report to it, so it works for non Ford vehicles too. Why didn't I get a recall letter? + Letters go to the address on file, which may be an old one or a previous owner's. Checking by VIN a couple of times a year catches what the mail misses. Cost and Coverage Do I have to pay for a Ford recall repair? + Safety recall repairs are done at no charge at a Ford dealer. That holds no matter the vehicle's age or how many owners it has had. Is a recall repair free if I bought my Ford used? + It is. Recalls follow the VIN, so the current owner gets the repair at no cost. What if the recall parts aren't available yet? + The lookup will show the remedy as not yet available. A second notice usually follows when parts are ready, and our service desk can tell you where things stand. Software Updates Can my Ford get software updates over the air? + Ford says every Ford it sells in North America today can receive over the air updates, and some vehicles have had the ability since the 2021 model year. How do I make sure my Ford installs updates? + Keep Automatic Software Updates turned on and set a Recurring Update Schedule in the Ford app or vehicle settings. Pick a time when the vehicle is parked. Where can I see what an update changed? + Ford's Software Updates page lists updates from the last 180 days with release notes. A message on the screen or in the Ford app usually confirms an install. Getting the Work Done Can a recall be fixed with a software update? + Software only recalls can be sent over the air when automatic updates are on. Recalls that need parts or hands on work still require a service visit. Can Ford Mobile Service do recall work at my house? + Recall work and software updates are on the Mobile Service list, depending on the repair, distance and availability. Call us with your VIN to check. How long does a recall repair take? + It varies by recall, from a quick software flash to a longer parts job. We'll give you a time estimate when you book. Ford Bronco Sport vs. Jeep Compass: A Farmington Driver's Comparison

Compare  |  Farmington, MO Two small SUVs with standard 4x4 and an off road minded trim at the end of each lineup. They part ways on power, cargo room and how they want to be used on a Saturday. Spring is when people around Farmington start thinking about the lake, the river and the state parks again. It's also when a lot of shoppers who want something smaller than a full size SUV end up comparing the Ford Bronco Sport and the Jeep Compass. On paper they look close. Both are compact, both come with four wheel drive on every 2026 model, and both offer an off road focused trim with extra hardware. They part ways on power, cargo room and how they want to be used on a Saturday. Spend time in each and the differences get clearer, especially once you load gear, hook up a small trailer or turn onto a gravel road. Quick answer: The Ford Bronco Sport offers more power on its Badlands trim, more cargo space, a 13.2 inch touchscreen on every model and up to 2,200 pounds of towing, or 2,700 on the Badlands, when properly equipped. The Jeep Compass uses a 200 horsepower 2.0L turbo across the lineup, tows up to 2,000 pounds, and offers low range gearing on the Trailhawk. Drivers who haul gear and spend weekends outdoors often find the Ford Bronco Sport the better fit. Ford Bronco Sport towing Up to 2,200 lbs, 2,700 on Badlands Jeep Compass towing Up to 2,000 lbs Both offer Standard 4x4 on every 2026 model In this post Power and fuel 4x4 and gravel Cargo and towing Cabin and tech Which one fits How Do the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Compass Compare on Power? Jeep keeps it simple. Every 2026 Jeep Compass uses a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder with 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8 speed automatic. For 2026, the lineup starts at the Latitude and runs up through the Limited and the Trailhawk. The Ford Bronco Sport gives you two engines. Big Bend, Heritage and Outer Banks models use a 1.5L EcoBoost with 180 horsepower and 200 lb-ft. The Badlands steps up to a 2.0L EcoBoost with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. Both run through an 8 speed automatic. Fuel economy lands close for the everyday versions. The EPA rates the 1.5L Bronco Sport 4x4 at 25 city, 30 highway and 27 combined. The Compass comes in at 23 city, 31 highway and 26 combined. The more powerful Badlands drops to 23 combined, which is the trade for that extra muscle. Which Handles Gravel, Ice and Trails Better? Every 2026 Bronco Sport and every 2026 Compass comes with four wheel drive. That alone covers most of what Southeast Missouri throws at a small SUV, from a January ice storm to a washed out gravel road after a spring downpour. Our February trim guide walks through the Bronco Sport's G.O.A.T. Modes trim by trim. For this matchup, the piece that stands out is the Badlands. Its Advanced 4x4 system uses a twin clutch rear drive unit that can send torque to a single rear wheel when the other three lose grip. That same system comes with the Sasquatch Outer Banks Package. On the Compass, Jeep Active Drive 4x4 is standard with Selec-Terrain modes for Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud. The Trailhawk earns Jeep's Trail Rated badge and adds Active Drive Low with a 20:1 crawl ratio, Rock mode, Hill Descent Control and all terrain tires. That low range gearing is a real plus for slow, steep climbs. Ground clearance Ford lists up to 8.8 inches of ground clearance for the Bronco Sport with available all terrain tires, and the figure varies by trim. KBB lists the 2026 Compass at 8.1 inches, and Jeep gives the Trailhawk a one inch factory lift. On a rutted farm lane, either one clears more than a typical car. Ironton driver tip The roads into the Arcadia Valley climb and twist, and a summer storm can leave gravel and branches across the pavement in a hurry. Slippery mode on a Bronco Sport or Snow mode on a Compass helps on loose stuff, but slowing down for the blind curves helps more. Which Carries More Gear and Tows More? This is where the Bronco Sport's boxy shape earns its keep. Ford lists up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 65.2 cubic feet with the rear seat folded on 1.5L models. Jeep lists the 2026 Compass at 27.2 cubic feet behind the second row and 59.8 cubic feet with it folded. The tall, square cargo opening on the Bronco Sport makes coolers, tackle boxes and camp chairs easier to stack. Towing follows the same pattern. With the available Class II trailer tow package, 1.5L Bronco Sport trims are rated up to 2,200 pounds. The Badlands is rated up to 2,700 pounds when properly equipped. Jeep rates the Compass at up to 2,000 pounds. None of these are built for a camper. They are about right for a pair of kayaks on a small trailer, a jon boat for Big River or a utility trailer for yard work. Check the door jamb sticker for your vehicle's exact payload before loading up. They part ways on power, cargo room and how they want to be used on a Saturday. Explore the Ford Bronco Sport Bronco Sport Research What Is It Like Inside the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Compass? Every 2026 Ford Bronco Sport comes with a 13.2 inch center touchscreen. Big Bend, Heritage and Outer Banks get an 8 inch digital cluster, and the Badlands gets a 12.3 inch cluster. For 2026, Ford also made a 5G modem standard and included the Ford Connectivity Package for the first year, so features in the Ford app like remote start and vehicle status work out of the box once you activate them. The Compass runs Uconnect 5 on a touchscreen of up to 10.1 inches, depending on trim, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an available 10.25 inch digital cluster. For 2026, Jeep added heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and remote start to the Trailhawk, a nice touch on a frosty February morning in Farmington. Both cabins seat five. The surest way to judge comfort is to sit in each with the people who ride with you most, and to load the car seat or the dog crate you use every week. Ordering a Ford From the Factory: How It Works at Sam Scism Ford

Buying  |  Farmington, MO When the exact truck or SUV you want isn't on the lot, you can have Ford build it. This walkthrough covers how the order works, what it costs, how long it takes and how you follow it. Most people buy a new Ford the same way. They look through inventory, find something close and drive it home that week. That works great when close is good enough. Sometimes close isn't. Maybe you want a specific color with a specific tow package, or an F-150 trim with the engine and axle you need for a gooseneck. Maybe you just don't want to pay for a sunroof and a package you'll never use. A factory order gets you the build you pick, and Sam Scism Ford handles the paperwork with Ford from start to finish. Quick answer: At Sam Scism Ford, you start a factory order online or in person, a sales representative confirms the build and checks incoming stock, and then submits the order to Ford. Ford doesn't charge extra for customer orders, eligible incentives can apply at the time you order or at delivery, whichever you choose, and you can follow the build once Ford assigns a VIN. Lead times vary by model and configuration. Extra charge from Ford None for customer orders Incentives At order or at delivery, your choice Tracking Online once a VIN is assigned In this post How a factory order works Order or buy from stock How long it takes Incentives and financing Tracking and delivery What to decide first How Does Ordering a Ford From the Factory Work? The process is simpler than people expect. You don't deal with Ford directly. Your sales representative at Sam Scism Ford places the order and stays your contact until the vehicle shows up on Flat River Road. 1 Start the order Use the custom order page on our site and pick a model, then put the trim, engine, color and packages you want in the comments. You can also sit down with a salesperson and build it together. 2 We confirm the build A representative calls to go over every detail. This is where we catch things like a package that requires another package, or an option that isn't available with your engine. 3 We check incoming stock Before anything goes to Ford, we look at vehicles already headed to the store. Sometimes a vehicle that matches your build is already on its way. 4 The order goes to Ford Once you're happy with the build and the deal, we submit it. Ford then schedules it for production. 5 Follow it, then pick it up When Ford assigns a VIN, we send it to you so you can follow progress. When the vehicle arrives, we call, finish any remaining paperwork and set a delivery time. Final price is worked out between you and the dealership, the same as a vehicle on the lot. Ford doesn't add a charge just because the vehicle is a customer order. When Does Ordering Make More Sense Than Buying Off the Lot? Neither one is the smarter move every time. It comes down to how specific your needs are and how soon you need the vehicle. Ordering usually wins when The build is specific: a certain axle ratio, trailer tow setup, bed length, seating or color combination you aren't seeing in stock. You want to skip extras: ordering lets you leave off packages you'd otherwise pay for on a loaded dealer unit. Timing is flexible: your current vehicle runs fine and you can wait for the right one. You're planning ahead: a truck for next fall's harvest, or an SUV timed to a new driver in the family. Buying from stock usually wins when You need it now: your current vehicle is done, or a new job starts next month. Close is good enough: the vehicle on the lot has what you need and a couple of things you can live with. A stock offer fits: some incentives are tied to vehicles already in inventory, so compare both paths before you decide. Farmington driver tip If you tow, bring the weight of your heaviest trailer and the hitch type with you. A trailer tow package, axle ratio and payload all show up on the order, and getting them right once beats finding out at the boat ramp on Clearwater Lake that the truck is a little short. How Long Does a Ford Factory Order Take? There isn't one answer, and anyone who gives you a firm date on day one is guessing. Lead times vary by model, configuration and what the plant is building that month. Model year changeover matters too. Ford opens and closes ordering for each model as one model year ends and the next begins. During that window some models, trims or options may not be orderable at all for a stretch. Your representative can tell you where the model you want stands right now. A factory order gets you the build you pick, and Sam Scism Ford handles the paperwork with Ford from start to finish. Supply issues and high demand can stretch things out, so plan with some cushion. If your current vehicle has to last until the new one arrives, keep up its maintenance so it gets you there. Start a Custom Order Browse New Inventory How Do Incentives Work on a Factory Ordered Ford? This is the part that worries people most, and it's handled in your favor. On a customer order at Sam Scism Ford, eligible incentives can apply either at the time you place the order or at final delivery, whichever you prefer. In plain terms, if a better program shows up while your truck is being built, you can take that one. If the program you ordered under goes away, you can keep it. Eligibility rules still apply, and your representative will spell out which programs you qualify for when you sign. Current Ford programs are posted on our manufacturer specials page, and they change through the year. Ask your representative whether a deposit is needed for your order, and if you're financing, the Finance Center can help you line up the loan or lease ahead of delivery day. What about my trade You can get a value on your current vehicle at any point, and we take any make in any condition. A vehicle's value moves with time and miles, so ask how long an offer holds and plan for a final look closer to delivery. How Do You Track a Ford Factory Order? Once Ford assigns a VIN to your order, your representative sends it to you. With that VIN you can follow the build on Ford's vehicle order tracking page, from production scheduling through shipping. The Ford app is worth setting up early too, since you'll use it for the vehicle once it's yours. Dates on a tracker can shift as the vehicle moves from the plant to rail or truck. If something looks stuck, call your representative instead of refreshing the page every morning. We can check with Ford on where it stands. When the vehicle lands at the store, we look it over, confirm it matches the order and call you to set a delivery time. Sales hours run 8 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM to 5 PM Saturday, so pick a time when you can spend a little while learning the features. What Should You Decide Before You Place the Order? A little homework makes the call with your representative short and the order right the first time. Have answers for these: Model and trim: the trim sets most standard equipment, so start there. Engine and drivetrain: especially if you tow, plow a long driveway or drive gravel daily. Must have packages: list the ones you need and the ones you'd skip. Color, inside and out: have a second choice in case one is limited. Trade and financing: know if you're trading and how you plan to pay. Every new Ford sold at Sam Scism Ford, ordered or from stock, comes with Warranty Forever at no charge for as long as you own it, as long as you keep up the customary maintenance and records. Warranty Forever Every new Ford sold at Sam Scism Ford includes Warranty Forever at no charge, factory ordered or from stock. Listed engine, transmission and drive axle parts are covered for as long as you own the vehicle, regardless of miles, with no deductible. Keep up with the customary maintenance and records. See the dealer for details. How it works Ordering Basics Does Ford charge extra to factory order a vehicle? + Ford does not add a charge for customer orders. The final price is negotiated with the dealership, just like a vehicle from inventory. Which Ford models can be custom ordered? + Most of the lineup, from the Ford Maverick and Ford Bronco Sport to the Ford F-150 and Super Duty, can be ordered when Ford's order banks are open. Availability shifts around model year changeover. Can I start a Ford order online? + Our custom order page lets you pick a model and list your preferences in the comments. A representative follows up to confirm the details before anything is submitted. Timing How long does a Ford factory order take? + Lead times depend on the model, the build and the plant's production schedule. Your representative can give you a current read when you order and updates along the way. Why can't I order a certain model right now? + Ford closes and reopens ordering as model years change, and some trims or options can be paused for production reasons. We can tell you where your model stands right now. Could a matching vehicle already be on the way? + It happens. We check incoming stock before submitting an order, and a truck that fits your build may already be headed to Farmington. Incentives and Money Which incentives apply to a factory ordered Ford? + At Sam Scism Ford, eligible incentives can apply at the time of order or at final delivery, whichever you prefer. Eligibility rules for each program still apply. Do I need a deposit to order a Ford? + Ask your representative when you place the order, since it can depend on the vehicle and the deal. Everything gets written down before the order goes in. Can I finance a factory ordered Ford? + You can. The Finance Center can help you set up a loan or lease so the paperwork is ready when the vehicle arrives. Tracking and Delivery How do I track my Ford order? + Once Ford assigns a VIN, your representative sends it to you, and you can follow the build on Ford's vehicle order tracking page. Call us if the status looks stalled. What happens when my ordered Ford arrives? + We inspect it, confirm it matches your order and call to schedule delivery. Plan a little extra time to set up the Ford app and learn the features. What if a tracking date changes? + Shipping estimates move as vehicles go from the plant to rail and truck. Your representative can check with Ford if a date keeps slipping. Trades and Coverage Can I trade in my vehicle on a factory order? + Any make and condition is welcome. Since values change with time and miles, expect a final appraisal closer to delivery. Does a factory ordered Ford get Warranty Forever? + Every new Ford sold at Sam Scism Ford includes Warranty Forever at no charge, whether it was ordered or bought from stock. Customary maintenance and records keep it in force. Dark gray Ford Ranger with bikes on the tailgate kicking up dust on a gravel road, Farmington MO

Ford Ranger vs. Toyota Tacoma: Which Midsize Truck Fits Farmington?

Compare  |  Farmington, MO Two midsize pickups, two very different ideas about cabs, beds and power. The right one depends on what you pull, what you haul and how many people ride along. Midsize trucks make a lot of sense around Farmington. They fit in the garage and slide into a downtown parking spot, and they still pull the bass boat to Clearwater Lake on a Saturday. The two names that come up most when people shop this size are the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Tacoma. Both were redesigned recently, the Ranger for 2024 and the Tacoma on Toyota's newer TNGA-F platform. They land in the same class but make different choices on engines, cab sizes and bed lengths. The right one depends on what you pull, what you haul and how many people ride along. Quick answer: The Ford Ranger tows more, up to 7,500 pounds when properly equipped versus up to 6,500 for the Toyota Tacoma, and every Ranger uses a 10 speed automatic with an available 2.7L EcoBoost V6. The Toyota Tacoma offers more cab and bed combinations, a six speed manual on select trims and a hybrid engine. Drivers in Southeast Missouri who tow a boat or camper often lean toward the Ford Ranger. Ford Ranger towing Up to 7,500 lbs with the Trailer Tow Package Toyota Tacoma towing Up to 6,500 lbs when properly equipped Ford Ranger cab and bed SuperCrew with a 5 foot box In this post Towing and power Cabs and beds Gravel and off road Cabin and tech Ownership and fit Which Tows Better, the Ford Ranger or the Toyota Tacoma? Towing is the clearest split between these two. Ford rates the Ford Ranger at up to 7,500 pounds with the available Trailer Tow Package, and that rating holds for both the standard 2.3L EcoBoost and the available 2.7L EcoBoost V6. Toyota lists the Tacoma at up to 6,500 pounds when properly equipped. A thousand pounds can matter. It's the margin between towing a loaded pontoon or a small travel trailer with room to spare and running right at the limit. If you tow to Lake Wappapello a few times a summer, or haul a skid steer on a trailer for farm work, that extra headroom is the reason a lot of buyers pick the Ranger. Engines and transmissions The Ranger's standard 2.3L EcoBoost makes 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 2.7L EcoBoost V6, offered on XLT and Lariat, bumps that to 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. Every Ranger uses a 10 speed automatic. The Ranger Raptor runs its own 3.0L EcoBoost V6 with 405 horsepower, though it's built for desert running and tows less than the regular trucks. Toyota's standard 2.4L turbo four makes up to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. The i-FORCE MAX hybrid pairs that engine with an electric motor for 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft through an 8 speed automatic. The Tacoma also keeps a six speed manual on select models, something you won't find on a Ranger. How Do the Cab and Bed Choices Compare? This is where the Tacoma gives you more to choose from. Toyota builds it as an XtraCab on the SR, SR5 and TRD PreRunner, plus a four door Double Cab, with either a 5 foot or a 6 foot bed depending on the build. The Ford Ranger keeps it simple. Every Ranger sold in the US for 2026 is a SuperCrew with four full doors and a 5 foot box that measures 59.6 inches long. Seating for five comes standard, and rear seat space works for adults on a drive to Ste. Genevieve. Ford Ranger: SuperCrew only, 5 foot box, five seats, available box side step and Pro Power Onboard outlets. Toyota Tacoma: XtraCab or Double Cab, 5 or 6 foot bed, and a 2400W outlet setup standard on hybrid models. If you need a 6 foot bed for plywood, fence posts or a dirt bike with the gate up, the Tacoma's longer bed option is a real point in its favor. Most crew cab buyers we talk to are hauling people as often as cargo, and the Ranger's single configuration covers that well. Which Handles Gravel Roads and Trails Better? Both trucks have serious off road versions. Plenty of Ranger and Tacoma owners around here never go farther than a gravel county road, a muddy field gate or the boat ramp, though, so the everyday 4x4 hardware matters more than the halo models. On the Ranger, 4x4 is available on every model. The FX4 Off-Road Package adds off road shocks, a steel bash plate, an electronic locking rear differential, all terrain tires and Trail Control, which handles throttle and braking at a set low speed so you can focus on steering. Most Rangers sit at 9.3 inches of ground clearance, and selectable drive modes for mud, sand and rocks are available. Toyota's off road ladder starts with the TRD Off-Road and its Bilstein shocks, then moves up to the Trailhunter with Old Man Emu shocks and the TRD Pro with adjustable FOX shocks. A stabilizer bar disconnect comes standard on the Trailhunter and TRD Pro and is optional on the TRD Off-Road. Fredericktown driver tip Spring rains turn low water crossings on the back roads toward Fredericktown and the Mark Twain National Forest into a different animal overnight. Four wheel drive and a locker won't help if the water is moving, so turn around and find another way. The Ford Ranger Raptor sits above all of it with FOX shocks, locking front and rear axles and a Baja mode. It's a lot of truck for most local driving, but owners who spend weekends on the sand at St. Joe State Park tend to love it. The right one depends on what you pull, what you haul and how many people ride along. Shop New Ford Inventory See the Ford Lineup What Is Daily Life Like in the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma? The Ford Ranger XL and XLT run SYNC 4A on a 10 inch center screen, and the XLT can be optioned up to a 12 inch screen. Lariat and Raptor get the 12 inch center screen with a 12 inch digital cluster. New for 2026, Ford made the FX4 Off-Road Package available on the XL, so even the work truck trim can get the off road hardware. Pro Power Onboard is available on the Ranger with up to 400 watts from outlets in the cab and the bed. That's enough for phone chargers, a small air pump or a box fan at a tailgate. Hybrid Tacomas come with a larger 2400W outlet setup, which handles heavier tools. Commuters headed up US 67 every morning should drive both.
